I keep hearing people telling others to attach the LFO the the filter cutoff. I use this method to get a wobbly bass. But, as of lately, I've been wanting to design a warm sounding lead and pad, perhaps adding a little sweep into it. I can do this by attaching the LFO the filter cut off right? I've tried it and it didn't come out sounding too good.

I keep learning and practicing more everyday. I'm moving along pretty good. I'm making alot of progress. But, I still do struggle with certain things. But, practice makes perfect, right?

So, by attaching the LFO the the filter cutoff, what other kind of cool sounds can I come up with? Could any of you guys shares some or your experiences or any tips??

I've really been trying to get the sound of the synth that Danny Byrd uses in a lot of his tracks. It seems pretty easy and basic, but I still have yet to come up with anything close to it. Anyone farmiliar with him that knows how I could achieve that "upbeat and happy" sounding synth he uses?

I don't want to make this seem like another thread of people basically just asking for others to explain to them step by step how to do something. I do have a pretty good understanding of how everything works. sometimes I just need a little tip or hint to point me in the right direction. My main goal is to keep learning and practicing so I don't have to ask how to make a certain sound, I can just do it on my own! I will get there someday! But for now, there is nothing wrong with asking a couple simple questions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Well, i can offer some 'minor' advice on LFOs but i guess its firstly important to understand what "SYNTH" you're using as different synths and different 'filters' will work differently with each other, for example, in my latest track, i'm running two "Vibration" LFOs with a "Small Amplitude" on two Opposing "COMB Filters".

This means that LFO 1 & LFO 2 and pulling and pushing the "PITCH" of Filter 1 (Note:- COMB Filters work with Pitch as oppose to frequency on most synths).

Thus creating this PEW PEW Laser sound.

LFO being used on Filter Cutoff however, can produce many sounds, firstly, i'd recommend using a standard "SINE WAVE" LFO (Aka Wave Form) over the Filter Cutoff, make sure you turn the AMPLITUDE to maximum so you can tell what is happening, then drag the LFO to either ROLL the Cutoff backwards (Creating a PULL) or to ROLL the Cutoff forwards (Creating a PUSH) like effect. I don't claim to be any master, but as you're after sound design advice, the best way to learn is to experiment.

Synths such as "MASSIVE" or "ALBINO 3" heck even "SYLENTH" All have different ways of having the LFO react with the sound, some via different routing options and then some via different forms such as LFOs that use a SAW Wave, which when combined with a SINE WAV LFO, creating a HARSH brutal sort of PUSH or PULL Effect.

thanks for the help bro! yeah, i forgot to mention what i was using. I use massive. I am really starting to love massive. at first i only really looked at it for bass sounds, but now that i'm understanding everything more, there seem to be endless possibilites!

Yeah. well i make most of my LEADS in Massive, so there's endless possibilities there, i also heavily recommend FM8 for the sound design enthusiast, its an amazing SYNTH, but of course, that's subjective, i really do dig it.

The more i dive into production, the more i love mixing together incredibly acoustic sounds with raw digital sounds, aka i make my own vocals etc.
