Can any one help? MP3s cutting out when imported?

Here's the problem: I'm making playlists in itunes to make mixes with in Live. After I have completed the playlist I export it to a folder on my laptop so I can work on the mixes out in the "world".

When I start to import the MP3s into live from that folder some of the files cut out or are missing the info for 90% of the song. What I mean by that is there are blank spots on the songs timeline.

When I open those same files in say sound forge or in any other media player the MP3s are fine. No blank or missing parts. At first I suspected that copying my files from my usb hard drive to my laptop may have been the problem, but with any other player everything is there and the files play fine.

Anyone have any ideas on why this maybe happening or what the deal may be?

Thanks for the help/answers.

here is a screen shot of what I am speaking of. The track should be continuous sound not suddenly cutting to -inf dB.

I have temporarily converted the MP3s to Wav format and the problem doesn't seem to persist. It's not rally an ideal solution converting files back and forth. It will work for now.

But anyone have a reason or an idea what could be causing the drop outs?

weird indeed, i know a few people have complaints about VBR mp3 files, what is the source of these? beatport? is it a fixed rate?

have you tried deleting the asd files from the folder and reimporting ?

I have deleted the asd files and reimported them.

It would seem that yes, everyone of the files I have had problems with are VBR. The MP3s are from all over, I usually import at 320 kbps and used to import at 192 kbps back in the bad old days.

Thanks for the reply. I'll look further into it on the forums now that I have some kind of idea of what is going on.
