how are waveform files used?

Here's a newbie question: What do you do with the waveform files that are included in the factory content? Live manual doesn't mention them.
They are just sound files as the drums loops or whatever.
The name "Waveforms" seem to target Simpler - small, short waves can get Simpler real nasty as it loops them.. Give it a try.
