hello, recently i experimented a lot with a vintage delay pedal.
so i go from the guitar to the pedal into a focusrite saffire 6 usb.
i really like the feedback loops the pedal produces & then i work with this in live.
now my problem is.. sometimes this gets a bit out of control, so that the input of the soundcard starts clipping.
my questions are:
1. is there a way to tame the signal.. can for example somebody recommend a limiter stomp box?
2. how easily do soundcards blow up, if the signal is too strong?

you could try a compressor at the end of the signal.

the diamond compressor is held quite highly. and made in canada which is a plus

i think i will look into a limiter/compressor then.
i was already looking on the internet. is there nothing that is just a limiter, without a compressor?

Basically limiter IS a compressor.

I have had good results with a compressor at the end of the FX chain,
going than into the MBP.

oh and don't use a cheap compressor if it's at the end of your chain. something like the mxr dynacomp is ok for being the first in your chain and using it only from time to time but at the end of the chain it'll add a lot of noise. again my recommendation is the diamond compressor.

there's 2 different types of delay oscillations. ableton's delay being digital and not analog will not feedback into itself like an analog. But if while there are repeats going just change the delay time and you'll hear the swirly noises. again it's not as impressive as the empress. but for that you need either an analog delay or an analog delay modeling plugin.

you can put a simple delay or a pingpong delay into a return channel and feedback the return into itself (on the return activate the send into itself by rightclicking on it). With the right settings you get some heavy self oscillation going on. Better put a limit behind the delay, otherwise things can crank up and get to heavy on the output.
