UC33e MIDI Out (as interface)

Can any UC33e users possibly help with a seemingly simple problem I'm having?
I'm trying to send midi from ableton to some hardware synths via the midi output of the UC33e. I have RTFM, turned the midi out port to "on" in the ableton device settings and have applied the "midi out from usb" command on the UC33e, selected the midi output on the ableton midi channel and can see that the midi signal is outputting on the chosen midi channel but it is not working. Am I missing something obvious maybe?
I have an Edirol UA25-ex USB interface that i have sending MIDI perfectly, sending from ableton to my midi/cv converter and then to my sh-101. But i can not send anything from the UC33e. Have been tearing my hair out!!
Can anyone please advise?
