I am so willing to help someone, but I am afraid it might appear too obvious how desperate I am for any friends, as the lonesome "would rather be travelling, but only 1st-class this time"kinda guy I am...
naa........ not really....
I got the GPO man, its got fairly decent "all the stuff from orchestas you can imagine"
for those yet to be fully "up to speed". the application or actually the Libray I am referring to is the "Garritan Personal Orchestra"
'Cept for Abe'... the absolute BEST 250 I EVER SPENT
I WOULD BE ENBALMED TO(sorry, not shouting i promise)to share as i am able to do... if it would be helpful
you hafta have a certain file type? or mp3 ok?
cuz i am not sure what I'd need to do nd all the implications if you were wanting like the Garritan sample.. I bet I could do it though all legal and ethical & everything Gary is the image of hospitable.. a would be pulitzer winner if it wuz up to me
Actually (I like to mess with 'im)I believe his whole dimeanor is a plot to seize that pulitzer prize and all the others too he gives a consumer intersted in symphony sounds and utility .. he gives SOOO MUCH for the dollar
I feel like the criminal AS i DISCOVER THE absense of limitations to his generousity..
I was in the market for the Tascam acquisition.. the uh.. giga -whatever they are calling it today.. whenever I discovered Gary Garritan
ladies and gentlemen I apolgize for placing this in what surely could be relocated to a better worthy place or cubby-socket.. i mean no negs.. its just I am deeply passionate about my gratitude I know I have towards GG sorry i cant hep mysef
If Gary gets a client from my rant he is a lucky day guy on that day, and Gary .. well I just sorta wanna say go man go.. and i'd love to meet 'im someday but I should now go and make him hear my music so
If the fella asked about the gongs didn't get what he was askin about I am lookin into what i would need to do i think I already know but wanna make sure and confirm the fella even still need any thing

jbon, whatever turns you on, man! as long as it ain't hurting people and the world we live in.
anybody saw the lord of the rings new extended version and specials? in one of the extras, you can see how director peter jackson was pretty much involved in all aspects of the movie. he also attended orchestra recording sessions, and on one of them, he wanted to play something too. so they gave him a crash course in hitting a gong the right way. and so jackson did not only direct, but also was one of the musicians. one hit, one sound, but who can say he played on the LotR soundtrack? maybe some kiwis doing ork growls...
sorry, i need some sleep.

This is the most confusing thread I have ever read. Perhaps I'll try and make toast with max/msp-it will be easier...
In the meantime, Travel box (or TRVL-BOX) by trackteam has a very good gong sound.

Reaktor - Steam Pipe
Can make some good gong sounds....
Try the "bong" pre-set and tweak from there.

This is useful, I think.
Found one Thai gong there, but have not tried it:

Hm, extracted a direct link from the javascript:

Guess you want a more deep and long strong gong all along?

it has been really busy the last few months. i have recorded a real big tamtam one time, but the rack it was hanging in was resonating too much to distribute the file as a sample (besides, more than two minutes before it rang out...)
and besides the conservatory percussion classrooms are constantly taken by students.
me and a colleague are planning a few days' recording session in summer, when all students are away, hoping to get together a nice set of orchestral percussion instruments.
i'm really sorry if i dissappointed you. i hope i can make it up, and live up to the expectations.
