I am looking to do more with Ableton as a rhythm machine in Performance view.

I have used as a "regular" DAW for years. The past few months I took my first steps into using performance view.

I play keyboards and do the beats for a band that has a bass player, guitarist/looper and singer.

I want to take my use of the APC40 from my initial steps of triggering the backbeat to using affects on beats and samples - portamento, envelopes and so on.

Does anyone have any videos, advice links and so on for a beginner?

Does anyone use iZotope's Stutter Edit? I am less interested in the stutter aspect as I am in some of the other builds and bends I have heard in demo videos for that software.

Let me know if I have not been clear in any regard. We are influenced by trip hop and new wave and want to bring more to the music.

If you understand how to map the APC controls to effect parameters in Ableton than it should be very simple to do the things you are talking about. You can use the beat repeat effect to do stutters, you don't need an additional plug-in

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have devoted a large chunk of my days in the coming weeks to work on the specific aspect, so it would appear I am on the right course.

Yes, this is how much of a beginner I am at Performance View.

Neyko: I'm not an APC40-owner myself but if I have understood this correctly you shouldn't have to map your Macro-Knobs on the APC40 - they map themselves onto whatever effect rack that is currently selected.. Am I right?

you are correct. as long as the "hand" looking symbol is on that effect rack.. the bottom right 8 knobs will automatically be mapped to the 8 macro knobs.

So I just skipped a planned step.

The thing to do looks to load up some scenes and/or beats with effects and start playing.

Getting used to using the cursor to page through to get to the effects on the fly.

My main goal is to use Ableton the way two fellow musicians use the Roland SP-555 and Korg ESX-1SD.

Please keep the tips coming but really nothing will substitute for his weekend and some real time devoted to simply playing with the APC and Ablton.

Well, I am far from being Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons but within a couple of hours youtube and the apc40 are already opening doors.
