Hi there,

I'm thinking about expanding my studio and Ableton Suite 8 is one of the products on my list. The fact that April's Ableton discount (Max4Live included in the price) is also available for students made me realize that now is the time to finally get Live. I would be getting a download version rather than the one that comes with a box and some extra features like samples, stickers etc. I highly doubt I would ever use those samples anyway, besides the download version is even cheaper and I'm just another poor student

My question is: how many times will I be able to use the download link provided by Ableton and install Live on different computers? I use desktop PC now but I'm planning to get a laptop in the future and would like to have Live running on both of them. Would I be able to use the very same download link? Or what would happen if I had to format my hard drive after I used the link more than once (if it's possible)? Would the download link still work so I could install Live again? I know it has to do with licenses, serial numbers etc so basically what I'm asking for is how many of these will I get when buying Ableton Suite 8 educational download version? Is there some kind of limit on how many times I can install Live? Also, if there is, would getting a box version be a better option or is it sold on exactly the same conditions?

The download isn't restricted once you have a licence linked to an account, but authorising Live on your machine is. Ableton give you 2 authorisations with the proviso that you don't run it on 2 computers simultaneously. After than you can pay/apply for extra authorisations eg. I had to get my computer repaired, asked for an extra authorisation in order to run it on a 3rd machine temporarily and they were most obliging.

As Megageoff said be carfull how many times you authorize the software your aloud two ,,, i made a stupid mistake and did'nt read the entire faq section . After a reboot of my system back to xp pro , because i just could not get on with vista and could'nt afford Windows 7 i had to apply for more authorization codes this weekend , i'm waiting for a responce , a good one i hope .
