Setting a quantized release time for a side chained.

Assuming a simple kick drum, bass side-chain and an immediate attack (0ms) does anyone know the mathematics behind timing the release to match up in a divisible millisecond time to the tracks BPM? In other words I would like to release the bass to normal unaffected volume in a divisible bar (half note, quarter note, etc) to the BPM on the compressors release parameter. Any literature or knowledge on this? I know it's mathy, but sometimes my feel just doesn't cut it and I want a quicker method. Thank you.

60,000/BPM=quarter notes in milliseconds.
You can multiply or divide that number accordingly for other fractions.

...and I personally like to use a short special trigger sinal for the sidechain, otherwise the kick tail may interfer with the result you want. I have not perfected this.. but the results are much more predicatble since I use a short dirac impulse as a trigger

Thats were sidechain eq comes in - kill the tail by high pass on the key signal.

of course a high pass can work too. as said above... I don't think that my method is the best one, but I like it most of the time more.
...that don*t count for the dirac impulse... but an additional advantage from a separate trigger signal is that you can shape that signal too to modify the release curve from the sidechain compressor.
