MPC 1000 as a Midi controller

Anyone have input on using MPC 1000 as a midi controller? I assume all I need is a usb/midi interface? I have also heard it does not save midi mapping upon powering down and back up ect. Is there a work around for this? I read that saving a blank program and using that to map to is the best route. Any input would be rad. Bascially I just want to be able to bang out some drums realtime. any input would be greatly appreciated.

hi there, i use a 1K as my main controller, you need a midi interface in your computer, and just need to create an empty instrument program so that the keys correspond to drum rack's slots, if you use a drum program it works but the slots aren't mapped consequently (at least in the factory default)
mach better than any mpc looking controller i ever had! maybe it's the weight, but everything sounds just more precise!

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify. I use a Rane 57TTM as my sound card, or somtime just the internal laptop soundcard if traveling. I can just purchase a MIDI to USB converter and it should work right? in other words... MIDI out on MPC 1K, to the converter, plug in to USB port on the laptop. That should transmit MIDI notes right?
Im trying to avoid having to buy a soundcard with MIDI interface, because Im a cheap bastard. Thanks

should be fine. I also use an MPC1k.
it's pretty cool to make a beat on the MPC then record its audio and the relating midi into Live to layer drum patterns.
some people aren't so lucky but I've also been able to get Live and the MPC to sync together quite well.

Hey Tone Deft
Could you possibly give a little more info about the ways in which you synced youre MPC1000 with ableton, I'm not even sure whats possible!
I've been wanting to do this for a little while now, mainly to use it as a controller for drum rack. But is it also possible to have the audio from the MPC running into Ableton at the same time as using it to trigger MIDI CCs?
Also, i noticed that you can't MIDI map straight to the pads on drum rack, that it's just triggered by notes. How can I get around this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
