Upgrade to suite vs buying VST's

I just bought the educational version of ableton live for cheaper, not realizing that it does not include operator, analog, tension, etc. When i was on the 30 day trial, the only instrument i used was operator and i didn't get a chance to experiment with everything else. I don't know whether or not operator and the other instruments are worth the extra 300-400 i'd have to pay, or if i should just buy another vst for the same price.
1) what do operator, analog, tension, and analog do?
2) Short list of $100-$400 vst's and plugins?
3) your opinion on what's better
THANKS!

2 questions:
what kind of music do you make?
Will you be playing live?
Generally it's considered that Ableton's instruments are good but there are better. But the advantage of using the native instruments in stability and integration. I for one am not a big synth user and I also plan to use ableton mostly for live work, so i stuck with the Suite instruments. Perhaps down the road when I more into synths i'll pick up Omnisphere or Komplete

Although ableton is made for live set's, as of now i am more geared towards producing and remixing.
and yes i will eventually be playing live
::EDIT::
I make house/dance/dubsteppy(so a wobble bass is needed)/trance/progressive house music.

So in comparison to other synths, is operator good? I don't know the difference

Operator is a great synth and very low CPU. It was the first synth that I learned and has helped me understand synthesis. You can get some crazy stuff just out of operators, instrument racks, and live effects.

get them all

start with suite.. save up and find a good deal on komplete. I don't have komplete but i believe there's no physical modeling synths in the package. Although you might be able to build one with reaktor since it's so modular..
