CPU Spike During Tempo Change

Hi,

When performing with Live I have a fader mapped to control the Master Tempo (Vestax VCM-600). During my performances I have quite a few tempo changes. All of my clips are warped between 70 BPM and 105 BPM, so the mapped fader's min/max corresponds to those values.

Quite often I will get audible dropouts, and see CPU spike to ridiculous levels, where normally it hangs around 9-13% with plenty of effects/clips running at the same time. I've played around with the settings for buffer size/latency quite a bit, and haven't had much success. I need to be able to perform tempo changes quite often in my live performances, usually over a few bars from say 70-82 or 95-85. I have the most updated version of Live Suite 8 and Max4Live, and I have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.6 and a 2.66Ghz i7 / 4GB of RAM.

Any advice on lowering this would be great, as I'm no expert on setting up these settings for my computer, as far as an audiocard it's either an Audio 2, an Audio 8, or I even have this issue when using the built-in output (use it while traveling). I can't continue to have audio glitches/dropouts in my performances.

Anyone else have this issue? I haven't found a solution yet.
