Good day everybody,

I wanted to create music for a while but is until now that I have time to start for good. Although the only thing that I know about music is pretty much that I love music, I would like to learn everything possible. My goal is to be a producer of music using sampling.

Please, could you tell me how can I start learning the basics of music production? All tips are welcome... I am trying to base my musical education to use it with Ableton's Live, but is a lot of terms and stuff included inside the software that I don't quite understand because of my lack of knowledge.

Thank you all for your time and support,

Juan.

Follow all the tutorials built into live and read through the manual, while googling terms you are not familiar with. As things come together, bombard the Ableton board with trivial questions about why the software crashes your computer. <-- That last part was a joke. My Ableton install is solid as a rock.

yeah deffo do the tutorials... best on any software ive used...

It will take time to come together, but if you find it fun im sure you will stick with it :)

Oh yeah... and whatever you do, try and resist all the companies trying to sell you stuff all the time. Its easy to think you need X synth or X compressor and you will take over the world... but as most people will tell you, its the talent more than how many toys youve got to play with....In fact if anything, ive always found having too much stuff to drag my creativity down..

Less is more ESPECIALLY when your new to music production..

Well Live is the tool of choice you have right? So ideally you want to learn the theory and basics first. Live will come with trail and error as it did with me.

The book is more of a general overview...what is the point of the live tutorials if you don't know about the basics first right?
