setting up the djm700 as a midi controller

I'm trying to set up my pioneer djm700 to use as a midi controller for djing instead of using the mousepad.
My djm700 is plugged into my soundcard (cakewalk by roland ua-25-ex) via a midi cable which is then plugged into my macbook via usb.
When I go into my preferences and select midi/sync the djm700 is not listed in the control surfaces list and under midi ports it is completely blank.
I'm unsure what to do to get it working, please help.
My aim is to be able to use my mixers' faders and knobs to control effects and fade out songs. the only reason is that u cant do two things at one using one mousepad haha.
