Recording software and hardware - glitches

hi,

I'm using a mix of hardware and ableton 4. For recording the finished productions, I am having some troubles in getting ableton not to glitch the audio. I am recording the master out of the mixing desk straight back into ableton. Ableton is usually running one or two impulses or simplers, and minimal effects. Although the CPU monitor usually hovers abound 30 -35, there are still audible glithches in the finished wav. I have tried recording simply the external hardware and then dragging the audio into ableton and rendering the entire arrangement, but this is a little cumbersome and not spontaneous enough for my "live" aspirations. I am using ASIO, firewire 410, with the buffer size set to 512 samples and a 20 ms latency. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how I can record everything together without getting glitches and all in one go?

thanks.

What kind of computer are you using?

And exactly what kind of glitches? Drop outs?

athlon 2000 PC laptop with 512 megs ram. The glitches are slight dropouts. I don't notice them when I am making the track, but they are only noticeable when recording, not every track BTW. but just some. The CPU monitor rarely goes above 30 -35.
