Technical difficulties - looping

First post here!
I'm interested if I could use Ableton Live similar as my BOSS RC-2 looper (but with some added bonus) which would include:
- Starting a loop with a footswitch and stopping the loop with another one
- Hearing everything (the loop, the metronome and the signal) on the headphones but without the metronome on the output (so only the loop and the signal)?
*** with signal I mean whatever instrument/sound is currently played over the loop ***
What hardware would I need for that?
My soundcard is a Presonus FP-10. It has a MIDI input, can I use it for the footswitches? Or would I need a dedicated piece of hardware? Is this even possible?
Many many thanks!!!
