Ill record one track, guitar, no problems, I can hear it, sounds great. When I try to record vocals i get an echo with play back. I'm using behringer xenyx 1204 USB, a Shure KSM 27, thats it. I emailed abelton about my problem they told me to check my preferences and make sure the driver type is set ASIO. (I have no idea what that means) I did it, the echo is gone but I have this awful crackling thats being recorded. HELP! im so frustrated.

For the lowest Latency settings in Live you have to look at buffer size.

When I record my music live in real time its set to 256 samples on my mac.
The trick is using the test tone to find where you get "crackling". Turn the test tone on, and move the buffer size to a place where you do not hear "crackling". This should be a place your computer can be safe to record. Then you can adjust the driver error compensation to fine tune the latency. I tell my students to use Low buffer and not plug ins while recording and then to push the buffer up as you mix and add more plugs. That way they have the least amount of latency while singing and playing the guitar.

The other possible problem with the "echo" sound could be the monitor. Try setting it to in on the track you are recording and auto to the one's you are not. If you still hear "echo" check your sound cards monitor settings and turn those OFF.

Hope this helps.

they told you about ASIO because it will help you with audio latency.

ALmost every soundcard has an asio driver
