Vocal Delay

Ok. I'm sure this should be a quick fix but I'm new with recording software. And recording in general. But I have Ableton Live 8 running on a Windows 7 Home Premium. I have a microphone plugged into a mixer. The mixer's output is plugged into the Ableton
input (microphone jack on side of computer). My master output of Ableton are my computer speakers. When recording, a noticeable delay is heard. The vocal track is behind the instruments. How can I fix this?

Please help!!

In Preferences, what audio drivers are you using?

One of the main recommendations is ASIO drivers. A good (free!) download is 'asio4all'. It may take a little configuration, but the latency (delay) will be extremely low :)

I am using the MME/DirectX driver. ASIO is free? or where should I get it at?
