Using a Cord Sample and Pitch it through Keyboard

Im not sure if that makes sense but ill try again:
Lets say I really enjoy the chords of some amazing trance or electro beat; Theyve produced an amazing sound and I want to utilize it (of course add my own touch to it but thats obvious). Instead of just using it as a sample however, is there a way that I could take that one sound, and then somehow spread that sound through my 49 key MPK49 to create different pitches with that sound? and go from there in creating my own melody using a sampled sound. Does that make sense?
The reason I ask is that Im having difficulty creating my own synths in Live 8 and this might be another way of doing it (and since Ableton seems directed towards sampling I figured this would be available somewhere). Any ideas? Thanks guys!
