it doesn't look like a normal usb 2.0 though... its really just a standard?

i already tried a few different cords and still no lights.. not reading.. maybe its something else? i just got bad luck i guess.. really psyched about tonight and my only option seems to be to buy a new one. but the gig dont pay that much.... i'm like charlie brown.. i swear...

Yeah it's a bit quirky with the 90 degree twist at the square end but it's just a normal one underneath....

not the cord then

weird... it just completely stopped working altogether. its a shame that i've changed my whole approach to ableton because of this thing and now i probably need to find another controller. dont want to buy another and have the same thing happen. maybe i'll just get a monome. i know its more money, but i'd rather spend more for a reliable controller than get burned again... its just a piece of plastic but damn its drivin me crazy!!!

I've had a few instances where mine appeared to have died but didn't

Things to check (no guarantees)
- Automap software, try updating it or closing it before ableton starts
- midi routing weirdness
- the usb cable as suggested above
- Try plugging it into a different usb port than the one you normally use

I've tried variants of the voodoo above and my launchpad would begin working again

tried all those things.... even got rid of drivers and reinstalled them. i thought a few of the top buttons should light up even if plugged in. it wont show up on any computer. its not an ableton issue, its gotta be the controller. i'm just an unlucky dude. such a shame because it really has improved my workflow..

that sucks man.. i hate when stuff doesn't work,

i am thinking of getting a launchpad..
both launch pad and apc40 scare me a little
the seem really cheaply made..
i see some peoples apc40's crash sometimes

check out the livid stuff too..
http://lividinstruments.com/

more expensive too but well built..
and i know some of the guys so if you buy one and it doesn't work
i can go punch one of them in the face for you :) j/k :P

personally i have been going back and forth in my mind for like 2 years lol
i think really i just want to build my own

No one at Novation deserves that, do you still have the unit under warranty that you can return it to the retailer...

i know,, i was just joking.. had to do with what was posted earlier..i probably should have used quotes, but whatever...

my product is not covered by the dealer but I still have the warranty card from novation, but they still have not contacted me back. i will continue to wait. i'll stop posting negative stuff (its all out of my system now). hopefully they will honor their 1 year warranty card that came with the unit. I'll keep you posted.

feeling hopefull 8)

If there was anything in this thread that indicated what sort of OS you're using I missed it. So, with that in mind, here's some Mac-specific advice: I don't use my LP much and was surprised to find it didn't work when I plugged it into my MacBook Air last month. I tried everything, but ultimately it turned out there was an issue with the latest version of the OS rendering the old LP drivers useless, so I just downloaded the latest OS X drivers, installed, and was back up and running. I hope this does the trick.

(Edit: Right, re-reading the thread now I see where you said you re-installed the drivers. Never mind. :/ Good luck on this...)

I had broken my LPD8 Akai controller. The USB port simply broke off the board. And it wasn't even a big fall. It wasn't a fall at all, in fact. The problem is that the unit is very light, and the port is really small. Plus, it's not firm enough. It's not that its built cheaply, even though it can be, but it's a design fault. That's why I prefer MIDI connectors. So far, USB connectors were, for me, a nuisance. If the device is advertised as "portable" and "laptop-friendly", than it shouldn't be broken on a first (cushioned) fall, from a living-room table. I am now frustrated with Akai a bit. Thought about getting a new one, but its not worth it, if the USB can't handle a little bit of shaking.

Anyway, maybe this is what happened to you? Have you checked it?

Cheers
