recommendations for 4 channel output hardware

hi - i need to get 4 channels of audio out of my macbook pro. i got an M-Audio 410, but it wont install properly, so i'm looking for something that runs on OSX core audio drivers.
i'm on a tight budget, so currently looking at the Alesis io4 and Novation nio 2 l 4.
i'd also like to use the device with a windows 7 PC with an i7 chip - but i've heard that some usb devices dont work with i7s.
any ideas?
