Using Ableton as a Roland Sampler

A band member is moving. He added a lot of wonderful chaos to our music via his Roland SP-555.

I want to pick up the slack with Ableton.

The first trick I want to learn is how to take a vocal sample - a phrase or a movie line of say 10 seconds in length and using Ableton twist the pitch and stutter the sample.

Can anyone either suggest a tutorial say on youtube or provide the steps to do this? Or perhaps this has been covered already extensively in the forum and I am overlooking the thread?

I am not having much luck simply putting the vocal line in a clip in performance view and utilizing effects to do this. Am I going about this wrong? Should I be setting up Sampler and having it triggered by a key instead?

I hope this is clear enough. If not, provide some questions so I can better articluate myself.

Thanks in advance.
