Live 8.1 Latency on OSX Snow Leopard

Hey all,

So I looked through the forums and couldn't find a suitable answer for my situation, so here goes:

Here's my computer setup:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB

I'm using the default audio drivers that come with OSX.

Here's my situation:

I'm running Live 8.1, and whenever I use a built-in instrument, the audio is snappy, and there's no latency. As SOON as I use a 3rd-party VST (any vst, I've tried dozens), it has HORRIBLE latency and becomes unusable. Opening up GarageBand, the problem is non-existant in there. I've tried changing the buffer size down to as low as 40 Samples in the audio settings, but it has the same problem, and the exact same amount of latency. I'm pretty much about to throw 8.1 out the window and go back to 7. Please help if you can! Thanks.

Upgrade Ableton to 8.2.x and see if the problem still occurs.
