Ableton Forum

Hello people

So yet another problem with Ableton (thats about 1 a week since i've had it):-(

So i try to save and ableton crashes, i open it up immediately and it loads up my project, but now i dont want to turn off my G5 because i might loose my work, which annoyingly just so happens to be the best ive done to date, Grrrrrrr!!!!!

I have already tried deleted the preferences and template files without success.

I have VST's running but they have never caused a problem before and there all legit.

Any advice would be great maybe then i could turn of my mac whilst im at work all day

I do get this a lot. It has happened with 8.1 for me anyway. Mostly just when I have a bunch of stuff in the set or have recorded some audio. It just says Live has run out of memory and then closes.

A couple of times I've had my whole laptop just completely shut down out of nowhere.

Doesn't that run the whole app through the OSX PPC emulation thingy wouldn't it? I thought all you mac guys had moved on now. G5 was a long time ago.

i picked it up on the cheap, cant afford a brand new one yet.

i dont know how the system runs mate, thats half my problem i've no idea whats going on when things go wrong, whe it works every thing is kushty

I'm no Mac expert but from my knowledge : with the PPC systems Live will run but not to its optimum as it is going through a translation to run on that old chip. Also, if you load up an old VST it will kick your mac into full-on steam-engine mode and the whole thing will die on its arse.

there's a performance thread knocking about this forum somewhere that demonstrates the difference between a current Mac and a G5. As I recall the G5 is somewhere in the region of 80x less powerful than the current model. I'm sure a real Mac person can fill in the details here.
