I'm new to the Ableton Forum, so I apologize if this question has already been asked...

First, let me explain my Live Set briefly:

I am working on a dance track and am using the Operator synth for a bassline. The LFO is engaged in sync mode and affects the filter cutoff to provide the commonly-known "wobble" effect. I have mapped the LFO Synced Rate to my Akai MPK25 on a control knob. The Min value is set to 1/16, and the Max value is set to 2 bars in the MIDI Mapping list.

My question:

I want to map a specific LFO Rate value (say, 1/8 for example) to a pad or key on the MPK so that I can trigger the said Rate value in real time. I understand I can map the Rate to a key/pad/knob and set the Min/Max value to 1/8 so that any time I push it, the rate becomes 1/8. But I also want to be able to freely modulate the LFO Rate with a separate knob to enhance the creative potential of a live performance.

For example, if the track is playing and I am twisting the LFO Synced Rate knob through the range of values, I want to be able to push a pad and have the rate return to 1/8 (or any preset value for that matter).

I want to avoid using the Automation Lanes in the Arrangement view so that I can stay in the Session view.

this is one of those times where Live's relative/absolute thing comes in handy...

download this track preset i made. it has clips that, when triggered, will change the lfo rate. just map these clips to your buttons. the rate knob can still be used too. just make sure you retrigger the '1/48' clip before twiddling the knob, or the timings will be offset.

you can keep this .adg file in your 'templates' folder to use as a 'track preset', and can drag into any session you have open.

And how its done: draw the envelope from the lfo into the clips.

Two ways to specifically do what you ask.

One is, to have your second instance (pad) assigned the same CC# as your knob. You will have to find a way to do this either through the controller, or with editor software for the controller. The important part is to make sure that the Min/Max range, is set to the same number. Then no matter when you press that pad, it will make your knob go to a specific point (you'll have to do the dirty work and figure out what 'amount' is needed to make the pad trigger 1/8.

Two is to have a special MIDI channel of keys and, via midi, assign those keys as a 'range' that controls the knob. You may have to put your instrument in an Instrument Rack, and assign a macro knob to that parameter, and then assign the key range to the macro (Ableton sometimes thinks you want key assignments to switch amongst options sequentially). This is a fun way to 'play' the synth because you can play the bassline with one hand, and the wobbles with the other
