Preference.cfg error message help please!

I'm getting a very weird problem I've not encountered before.
When I was playing back an arrangement I'd recorded, I attempted to delete a track and my laptop crashed, just repeating the same part of a second over and over. The computer wouldnt respond to anything including key commands, so I had to switch it off, though it pained me dearly...
Now when I try to load up Ableton it says
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'An error occurred when reading "D:\Documents and Settings\Hamish\Application Data\Ableton\Live 4.0.1\Preferences\Preferences.cfg". Apparently, the document was created by a more recent, and incompatible, version of Live than this.
[Unknown Compund Stream Type]'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
twice, then
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'A serious program error has occured. You should try to save your work under a new name using the Save As command from the File Menu and restart the application'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
then doesnt load Ableton. I haven't been running my downloaded version of 4.1. I have recently installed and started using Midi Ox and Midi Yoke, both worked fine. I've unistalled them and that's not solved it. I've tried reinstalling Ableton but to no avail.
Ableton 4.1 on the other hand does load and seems to work, but the preset drumkits are unavailable on it somehow, and the track I was working on actually uses one of them.
Anyone know of a way around this? A quick fix would be how to access the preset drum kits for 4.0.1 in 4.1.
Cheers...
