Anyone know how I can use the Chord and Scale plugins or whatever to voice the A minor chord, transposing it up / down through all 12 possibilities, with different spacing / mutations etc. like this dude? Behold!

Lol, why don't you just follow his instructions for building each extension and then transpose each one?

I have very little understanding of chords (I'm gonna do something about that though).

Also I can't find the A minor chord in Live's library - nor do I have knowledge of how to do the transposing and the alternative spacing of each transpose - did that make sense?

No - not really.

At least read up on some basics of scales, chords etc - there is load of info on the net.

I found it in there once but it was too scared to come out for being bullied by a testy E7b9 (dominated you could say). One day I'll sic my Bb7#9 on him and free that poor A minor.

I do know that there are several flat miners in a hole in Chile.

Or was that New Zealand.......

Off to the lounge,

chord device, set one to 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, and 17. if you look closely at the video, these are all of the relative intervals to his root, A. He's playing an A minor chord, with a minor7th, minor9th, minor4th, and an octave above the minor4th (right?). if you play single notes, set up like that, it will transpose that shape all over.

but these dudes are right! you really ought to learn as much as you can about what those things mean. most of it is pretty straightforward and simple, and will help tremendously. In this case, those numbers, like 4th and 9th and stuff, are referring to which note in the scale it is. a minor9th chord could consist of A, then the 3rd note in the A minor scale, the 5th in the A minor scale, the 7th in the A minor scale, and the 9th, which is just the 2nd since there are only really 7 notes in most scales. the 8th would be A again, and the 9th would be B. A- 9 is a sweet chord. A9 and Amaj9 are all super sweet too. look it up!

also, I don't think there is an A minor in Live's library. a fun (and fake) way to play super cool (and fake) jazz is to midi map the scale parameter, put a chord device in front of the scale device, set the chord doing something like I said earlier, then play single notes and change the scale knob with your midi knob and play slow. fake is a weird word for music though. it wont make you a better pianist at all, but if it sounds dope, it is!

and stringtapper is hilarious

Minor 4th?

...dude, everyone knows that jazz is just music without words. Just set the arpeggiator to random and use brushes. Nor sure what fake jazz would be though...possibly white people who attempt to play it?

Cool, thanks for the English lesson. While we're on topic, you should work on your capitalization.

My point is that as a jazz musician, I think I have the right to poke fun of various stereotypes that people reference...Again I wasn't being serious, don't get so offended.
