Hi,
I recently purchased a few hardware synths, connected everything and all seems fine. For some reason, and not sure how to figure this out but.. every time I hit record in Live it seems to send some midi information to the synths were it changes the (edited) patch, not drastically but enough to tell the difference... the only way around this is to save my edited patch.. then all is fine. I also see during recording a midi clip, in the midi clips I also see random recordings of automation..just random midi data recorded.

What would be the proper set-up in the midi preferences for hardware synths?
Ex Midi port one (where the hardware synth is on) Track set to on/off, Sync is set to on and Remote set to on/off?

I guess it could be due to conflicting MIDI channels?

I don't have any hardware synths but I do have lots of hardware controllers and keyboards and have learned over the years to setup everything carefully. Ableton handles MIDI in/out differently than other DAWs I have used and it's a lot more critical to ensure that keyboards and controllers are assigned to their own channels. In the beginning when trying to get things sorted I had issues where keys on a keyboard triggered the LEDs on the Launchpad, controllers on a device would cause other issues.

I have a full document that details all devices and channels along with the CC ranges used so I know where I can make adjustments. I would start something like that if you have a lot of gear to work with. Takes a little time and a bit of a pain but well worth it in 6 months when you forget what is where and you go to add a new piece of hardware.
