Sudden volume increase after recording automations?

I have a MIDI track containing a set of alternating clips. That is, I have several MIDI clips that I created and have arranged them in within one track. For simplicity, let's assume that my track is 20 bars long. The first ten bars do not have any automations, but the subsequent ten bars do. I recorded the automations using knobs on my MPK49. The automations are for cutoff and resonance. When I play the track, the first 10 bars play back at the volume I originally set, but the second 10 bars are now significantly louder. Nothing else has been done to this track. The only difference between the two sections is the two recorded automations.

What could be causing the volume increase in the second section?

It sounds like it might be the resonance setting. As your filter sweeps over things like fundamentals and harmonics it could be boosting them very high.

The resonance, and even the cutoff, are both same level as the previous 10 bars for at least half a bar when the second 10 bars start. But the volume increase is noticeable immediately when the second 10 bars start.

I ended up going back and re-doing my automations with a mouse. But I would still like to figure out why this happened. Using my MIDI controller for recording automations is a primary reason why I bought it.
