yeah, I've been getting into exporting basic patches out of Massive, dropping a sustained note sample into kontakt, and splitting it in there, using all the inbuilt effects (phasers/flangers, distortion, saturation, etc... on the midrange, just a bit of distortion and maybe a phaser on the high channel, bass mostly left alone, aside from some compression) to fatten it up, It's also great to use unisono to detune your entire bass sound against itself (keep the settings on the lighter side or it becomes garbage, maybe 2 voices 10-15% detuned in kontakt.

antarktika wrote:heh, apparently I was grumpy earlier, I just started getting into resampling for dnb bass sounds, so I've been inundating myself with threads. Heres a couple to get you started:

that last one is vital, because it will help you break out of songs that just wobble their way from start to finish. You gotta break that shiz up with stabs and deep sub bits.
not sure exactly what style you're going for, I'm not much for dubstep but I like stuff like Broken Note: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1ihdW-u5Mg what with the brrchawowowaaaahwuwuwuwuwbzzzrrrow, not so much into the wubwubwubwub dubstep, the above stuff is pretty good for that sort of deep chaotic distorted type of thing.
:D Thanx for these...good info!

like everyone said and like you see in the tutorial... modulating the filter, layering sounds, adding movement with automation... i reeeallly like automating in an extra oscillator will make it unique... but after all that, what makes a bass wobble or even any sound sound amazing and mind blowing in my opinion comes from the processing of the bass patch... try splitting up the frequencys and adding distortion and other effects to each frequency band... thats where the reeeal fun comes in! :) hope this helps :D

I like to use a few different synths, each with their own different yet related kind of bass sound. They're always in hocket, but sometimes I layer them. Then I usually draw in most of the automation for filters, pitch, LFO, or any other modulations you need to tweak. I never use a synced LFO, as I draw in the automation for that manually. Its more work, but it provides a lot more freedom with the character of the movement. As for beefing up the sound, everything mentioned is a great option. But sometimes you may have to look into the rest of the mix to see if your massive bass sounds aren't being covered up be the mids and highs of your mix. You could put in a huge and complex bass in your mix, and if all the frequency content is already saturated, you will barely hear it. But maybe I'm the only one who's had that issue, as I'm all about layering.
