I'm new to ableton and any kind of production in general. I'm a drummer using a roland spd-s to trigger tracks during live performances. I'm curious what is the best way to set up Ableton for a live performance. I used to use the spd-s just as it comes, with its own software, but having a digital interface is way easier to control and be attentive to whats going on. I'll have maybe 8-10 songs I have tracks I want to trigger, each song containing anywhere between 2-9 clips.

My question more specifically is: is there a way to have multiple midi maps to switch between on one live set? That is, if I have 25 clips I want throughout the night, but I can only midi-map 9 of them at any one time (to my knowledge), is there a way to switch between different midi maps? Or is the only way to do that to have different live sets loaded up at the start of a show? Having different sets seems processor heavy as all of the VSTs would have to be loaded the whole time, and triggering one midi track might set off another.

Make sure you are in the session view. Press control+m to open up midi map mode. On the right hand side under the scene launch buttons you should see some arrows, a play button and a stop button. Map these to your controller. Press control+m to leave midi map mode.
You should now be able to scroll up and down as well as launch/stop your scenes. The disadvantage is that you need to have your scenes set up in advance.
I would also look into follow actions.
Check out the novation launchpad. It's exactly what you are looking for and cheap as chips.

launchpad is cool but I'm using the SPD-S because i'm drumming at the same time, don't have time to put a stick down, and this is easier for me to time. So really what I'm looking for is a way to have multiple songs loaded up at the same time without having to open a new file. Mapping a trigger to the play button is really helping me do that. Any other ideas?

Does the SPD-S have multiple memory settings?
i.e. Setting 1 (set to control 9 things) Setting 2 (set to control the next 9) and so on?

The Akai MPD18 for example has 3x banks of 16 pads.
Might be worth doing some research on specs of stuff like the akai MPD range or things with bigger pads like your SPD-S
