hi i've been away from live for a bit and i am starting up again and trying to remember a few things, i'm having trouble with routing audio tracks, i have snare track 1 snare track 2 and snare track 3 and i want to route them into snare 123 and apply effects to them, so ive set each tracks i/o to snare 123 and when i change the monitor to "in" i get a feedback sound which i think is the sound from my laptop? also if i say whistle it plays through the channel as if my laptop is a mic, how can i stop this? i just want to route each track to snare 123 and be able to apply effects and record the combiened result of the 3 snares onto snare123, thank you in advance for any help

If you whistle and your tracks respond, then some track is picking up your microphone. It could be one of your snare tracks - what do their "Audio From" choosers say?

To route your snare tracks to snare123, set the Audio To chooser for the three tracks to the "snare 123" track. Set snare123's Monitor to "In", and (depending on whether you've already recorded them) probably set the individual snare tracks' Monitor to "Off".

Maybe post a screenshot so we can take a look at your configuration and see if we can identify the problem?

Okay, thanks for following through on those - it's still hard to make out what's going on but it was definitely helpful.

See how those little meters next to the "1/2" chooser move every time you click? I bet you that "Realtek HD Audio input" (which is your input on all three tracks, including the one where monitoring is "In") is connected to a microphone.

Try changing the "Audio In" chooser on your destination track to "No Input". You don't need to specify an input for that track, since the other tracks already have that track specified as their output. I'm willing to bet that your issue is there.

Give it a try and see if it works - hopefully it'll work out for you!

Thanks for the feedback, I found a way around my problem by turning the mic input down in the audio and sound preference’s in the windows control panel, I found the more I turned it up the more feed back it generated , so by turning it down fully it stopped the problem, but I also tried your suggestion and that worked great as well so thanks for the help as it was starting to drive me crazy!
I’ve got another problem that I’m trying to figure out ,
Now that I have my 3 tracks routing into 1, lets call that “track in”, I want to use “track in” as an effect channel ie I want to route all 3 tracks into “track in” and apply fx ie comp etc, as I want to save cpu I want to freeze all my tracks but in order to route the tracks into “track in”, “track in” has to be in the “in” position on the monitor preference and thus is unable to be frozen is there any way I can route tracks into another and still be able to freeze all the tracks

I don't know about using the freeze function with routings like that (I've never tried it) but you could try setting up another track that just records the output of your "track in" and just make audio recordings out of it. If you've only got those tracks going you can set the input to "Resampling" as well which will capture anything that's going out to the Master track.

It's not as clean as using freeze, but I think it'll get the job done.
