I'm researching DAWs that enable to jam over a LAN with multiple computers.

I'm not interested into awkward MIDI-over-LAN solutions or external mixing consoles. A LAN cable should be enough.

The closest I came was with (sadly deprecated) FX Teleport, which lets a VSTi-enabled DAW be loaded which can be used from another computer. This takes care for synchronization, audio and midi transmission.

Is there any effort to make 2 or more Ableton Live instances work synchronized together over LAN? Maybe even taking advantage of all computer's soundcards (for letting the jammers individually preview sounds)?

Do you need to send MIDI and audio data between the computers to do the kind of jamming you have in mind? That is, do you need something more than synchronization?

Yes. Only one of the instances should be connected to the loudspeakers and play the mix of all contributors. The others could have the possibility to play back via their own soundcard (for previewing sounds), but the main audio stream would go via LAN to the master instance.

one ableton is master.. it controls play pause backwards tempo etc.

all other daws ars slave.. they all things above are controlled by the master.

In addition to such a LAN capability you just described, I think it would be great if Ableton could come up with a LAN distributed processing feature a' la Logic Node. What you're describing sounds a lot like Steinberg VST System Link, which I think is an awesome and sorely lacking feature for a live performance app like Live.
