Hi I bought Groovelab today just to fool around with on my guitar and what not. I had a few questions. Okay so when i put the music files that came with the software into the tracks or whatever and highlight them, a bunch of options at the bottom come up. At the bottom right I see tons of lines that basically means the rhythm i believe or tempo i have no clue im not very smart with this kindve thing. I was wondering how to change that so i can make up my own bass rifts electronically. I was also wondering if the microphone that came with the software is decent for guitar recording? And are there any other general tips that i should know?

Oh yeah and im running on Windows XP and I had another questions, is there any way to convert files such as itunes music files or .wma's into Live so i can fool around with them?

Fairstars audio converter is a very good any-to-any tool that you might find useful for this task.

As for your other questions, I'll beat all the other forum junkies to the punch and tell you to read the manual... it will answer all of your questions from your above post, and probably more.

Try and make it a little clearer instead of 'a bunch of stuff' and 'tons of lines'. Which view, session or arrange? You need to give us some clearer landmarks about where you're lost. As suggested, familiarising yourself with the manual and it's terminology would be a big help, also search the forums (there's a tips/tricks section) and do the tutorials from the Ableton homepage, that should be enough to get you running on your own feet.

Okay its under session. Have you seen a movie like White Noise when he would look at the lines and play them or whatever on his computer?

You're going to get a lot farther asking a very specific question using the terminology in the application and in the manual. I have no idea what you are talking about. You know, when you hover your mouse over an area, the bottom left gives you some instructions, use some of those terms to describe what you are seeing and what you want to do.

From what I'm hearing, you've dropped an audio file into the session view and then clicked on it which brought up the wave display in the bottom of the screen. On the left will be all your sample attributes and on the right will be the actual waveform display. Here's where I get a little lost. You are talking about rhythm and tempo so I'll assume that that's what you are trying to change. Is the sample long or is it looped? If looped, you have a several tempo options. The main tempo is set in the upper left of Live. You can tap to get a tempo or click-drag up and down.

If you are trying to change the tempo of the sample, well that's more complex. Is the sample already pinned to measures? If so, you can hit the (/2) (*2) buttons down in the sample area at the bottom to double or halve the tempo of the sample relative to the main tempo.

Ok, enuf time spent - gonna need some specific info to know if I'm even telling you stuff you need to know...
