Hello everyone,

has anyone had any issues with live 8 recieving midi input? I'm running windows 7 (unfortonately) 32bit and i'm using a SSL Nucleus controler. the problem is that Live 8 is not recieving any midi input. however, I can send midi info to the controler. I have tried other programs such as Pro Tools 9, Nuendo, cubase, reaper and sequoia and the Nucleus sends and recieves midi fine. In Ableton Live 8, I have checked the preferences and have activated the track and remote with no avail. any help is much appreciated.

Hi Peter,

i see activity on the bottom square showing there is midi going to the controler (by moving a fader in Live). however, Live does not show any midi activity on the top square. I connected the Nucleus controler to a Mac Pro that has Live 8 installed and all works fine.

best regards,

Hi Peter,

The midi indicator that I am referring to is the box set to the left.

keep in mind that I am using an SSL Nucleus controller. The Nucleus uses eithernet to communicate with a DAW (DAW control). The USB of the Nucleus is for the audio interface that is built into the Nucleus.

SSL uses a protocal for midi called IPmidi which is midi over eithernet. In Live/Preferences/midi, all midi ports for IPmidi is showing (for both input and output).

This is becomming very frustrating (at this point).

best regards,

William Maynard

Could you post a screenshot of your Options/Preferences/MIDI Sync screen. There might be something obvious that someone else might be able to spot.

Win7 has something called Snipping Tool for taking screenshots if you haven't tried it yet.

Hi Peter,

Problem solved!!

The Nucleus controller uses Ethernet to communicate with various DAW applications. So the Nucleus can be set to use DHCP or a Fixed IP address. So I switched the Nucleus controller to a Fixed IP address and it worked correctly with Ableton Live!!! I guess this is a windows issue becuase even though the controller was set to DHCP, the Mac had no issues with midi when using a Nucleus controller and Live.

Thank you for the help, much appreciated!
