Hi there,

I'm looking for a way to control multiple tracks with one rack. For example:

I have an 8 channel instrument rack, Macro 1 controls beat repeat on track 1, the Macro 2 controls device on on track 4.

Is this possible? I usually only use about 3-8 effects/controls per song, so it would be handy to have them all in one place.

I'm at work and can't test this idea, but can you group all of the tracks you need to tweak, throw an instrument rack on the group, and map the various effects to that rack?

I believe so.. don't see any limitations stated...

The Macros of a Receiver Rack (referred to as Receivers) can control the
Macros of other Racks (referred to as Senders) in your Set. Each Receiver
should only have one Sender and vice versa.

In order to accomplish this, the name of the Receiver and Sender both need
to contain a unique Identifier. The format of the Identifier is (*identifier*).
For example: (*ID*) or (*1*)

RACK NAME:
The Rack’s name needs to start with NK RECEIVER.

MACRO NAMES:
Macro Names can include Identifiers.

NOTE: The names of Senders and Receivers cannot contain any other
parentheses aside from the ones used in the Identifier.

Dude, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one around here who is getting sick of the idea that to do anything esoteric in Live, you need M4L.

Every other answer in the forums is "just get max".

Some of us don't want to be programmers. Some of us want to just make music with an application that will do the things we ask of it without having to learn a new language.

Yeah those reply is useless. To make matters worse they are often said by whome desn't know how to use it al all. Not realistic solution for most users. Putting every question away into m4l.

it's not 100% clear what you want to do. If you have an 8channel instrument rack, than you can for sure assign the main knobs to efx that sit within the specific chains.

If you're talking about different mixer channels: Here you can't assign macro-knobs for multiple channels. But obviously you can midi-assign whatever you want, on any track. Then set up a rack, name the knobs as you like and assign them as well. The unassigned knobs will then at least show you the position of the parameters when tweaking. A fake-rack, if you want to, hehe.

+1 for Macrobat included in ClyphX.
It's free and easy to use.

Another version of native group tracks solution... for software midi instruments.
I haven't done exactly what I am describing below, but I have created very similar set ups before...

Create grouped instrument rack for all the instruments you're interested in controlling.
map the 8 macros on this rack to the macros in the instruments.
the midi data for each instrument should be in its own midi track with no instrument. this data is routed to the relevant instrument in the grouped rack.

Created by myself and uploaded in December 2009... You don't need to be a programmer, just have a clear idea of what you want, there are many people out there that are willing to help you with the solution if it doesn't (which it probably) does already...

The OP asked for a solution to a problem that is not possible natively with Live, based on past history of Live releases it's not a business model of Ableton to add feature requests mid version so if you'd like the control then you need to invest time and energy in finding a workaround...

Cliphx is excellent and free, Max4live is awesome and not...

So in conclusion, get off your high horse and add something positive to the community rather than trying to heckle someone who is... End of
