LION deleted Library on upgrade

Hey everyone just a quick warning for anyone who is updating to Lion 10.7 from Snow Leopard 10.6, my Library at user/Library/Application Support/Ableton/(Clips/Defaults/Grooves etc) was deleted.

Luckily I had a copy but annoyingly I had spent ages organising the files on my imac that I upgraded.

After upgrading I had a problem authorising Ableton 8.2, then when I came to install 8.2.5 it asked me for a location for the library as it can't now access user/Library/Application Support.

Be careful if you have large sample libraries, back up!

Chris

Hey, it hasn't been deleted- It's just hidden.

I thought the same thing when i first got it. You might have to do some round-about ways to be able to view the folder. But once you do, just do what i did and chuck it in the side bar..now i can access it whenever i need to.

The way i got access to the folder by trying to delete an app and it asked if i wanted to delete the associated files. There was also the option to 'view in finder'. It then brought up the hidden Library folder.

It sucks, but it's just come down to Apple baby proofing their new OS. (which i don't recommend upgrading to for anyone else reading)

Well, yeah but eventually you will be forced to upgrade anyway to keep everything compatible, unless you don't upgrade anything else either & freeze your whole system in time.

Open Terminal, and copy this into it and hit Return:

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

Ha, that's a bit extreme.

I just meant, put it off while you can

I upgraded and it has been seamless. Well a few days of getting used to weird scrolling, but that's about it. I quite like the new features. Live, Logic and all my AU/VST plugins work fine. In fact I would nearly go as far to say that performance has been better since I upgraded. All hardware has worked after upgrading too. After reading disaster stories I was a bit put off. I recommend trying but ensuring you have a time machine backup just in case you have some incompatible plugin you cannot do without.

In terms of babyproofing - I don't think having to unhide a folder is too much grief. And this is covered on Ableton's FAQ's on Lion.

Ironically the RND plug ins still work, it's only the installer that's not working now.

I don't know how to do it. When I installed Lion over SL, my Inspector XL plug ins worked just fine still. This week I finally did a clean install of Lion, and the Inspector installer won't run since it's PPC based. So the plug ins will obviously run once they are installed, it's just getting to that point and authorizing them that won't work. Wait a second, I just had an idea....

...ok, so if you go to the installer and right click and select "show package contents", in the MacOS folder you'll find an installer you can launch, and it does work. BUt, I can't get the authorizer to run, so it's all a moot point anyway. Maybe if you drag and drop them from a previous Time Machine back up?

Update on the library loss, I made the library visible as per the Terminal advice (thanks for that), then repaired the library within Live and it has somehow put all my old samples within this.

Previously none of my samples were found when doing a scan, but after repairing they all showed up?!?

Cheers for the help.
