I know I'm old because COMPLEX-TRO is the dumbest name I've ever heard. Jesus Christ.

...That is all.

What about Moombahthon, Moombahsoul, and Moombahcore...

or ... Deepstep, Brostep, Glitchstep....

or Dreambeat, Glo-Fi, Chillwave....

Feels like these days if any successful artist does something that is slightly different from the strict formulaic boundarys that define their genre, a new subgenre has to be born, as asshole hipster bloggers rush to stay ahead of the crowd.

There are so many bandwagon-hopping scenesters online and in the music press that new "scenes" aren't even given time to develop and refine. And if they do become commercially viable there's always some opportunist like DJ Fresh or Skrillex waiting in the shadows, ready to pounce and "sell it to the kids", which in turn, instantly kills a genre.

I'm all for progress, but this obsessive hipster pigeon-holing puts too much emphasis on trends, and not enough emphasis on music.

It irritates me.

@Luddy- Probably not. It just doesn't feel right to say a word that sounds like that. At least with a straight face. Anyone around these parts remember Meepyflop? :D

@Condra- Yeah, I never understood the obsessive genre creation. Who knows. Maybe this swing in popularity of electronic music will bear as much fruit as the last time it happened. It just feels much less sincere this time.

I was 10 years old when I first heard "fahrn fahrn fahrn auf der Autobahn". That was sensational. Must have been around 1975. Then some years later, I think it was 1980, I saw a doc on television about the Plasmatics. That was really shocking. 8O

Then I decided I wanted to have a girl too with duct tape on her nipples, but guess what, I'm still dreaming.

I'm really getting old. :D

Ah, here's the Plasmatics.

Glambient. Let's start dropping it in casually and see how long it takes....

This is why Ishkurs Guide to Electronic Music will never be updated to 3.0.
And to think I would complain that music stores didn't have enough genres in the 90's.
Hopefully it'll all be scrapped and the new genres will be

"Ear Rape", "Meh", "Good for Cleaning", "For Ultra-Sensitive Ninny Boys", "Shit", "The Shit", "Ear Beer", "Chronic Required", "If Your Calculator Is Your Best Friend", "Copy/Paste with a Disney Front-Toddler", "May Actually Stir Up Real Emotions", "Yoko Ono Approved", "Chuck Norris Approved", "Roomba Approved", "No Computers Used", "Before Color Television"....

Cheers to all of us over the age of 35......
In my 42 years on this planet, I have met young people who are old souls, and have met old people who are quite childish (and I'm not talking "it's never to late to have a happy childhood")
As long as you have honor, integrity, compassion, artistic inspiration, and creativity, your all good with me!

Aw man, I would've felt better if you went on the angry defensive.
So even though I was joking, I now feel like a prick, oh wise one.
Seriously though I got a homey 13 years older than me and 5 years older than you.
So, I'm pretty sure he hasn't gone the prune juice route yet.

I miss Laserdiscâ„¢ and 2 Reels.

Being a teen or early 20's in the early 80's would've been awesome.
Playing pinball in a neon drenched arcade at 3 in the morning buzzing on coke with Bowie jamming over the speakers while some newer-wave version of a Joan Jett wannabe is trying to distract me...sigh.

Was not trying to pull the wiser than thou....
Funny thing was I hated new wave in the 80's, I was a hard rocker and took my self very seriously.
Now days I am SO all over anything New wave from the 80's. I just think there was some tremendously talented songwriting coupled with synths and technology. I even have my kids (under 10) into it.....
