Hi Guys,

When I put an effect on a send/return and put the send/return level on a track to maximum, it doesn't effect the signal as strongly as putting the effect on the track as an insert. Does any one know why?

It is because your audio channel itself is routed to the Master. You are hearing both sounds at once.

I'd suggest changing the output of the channel to 'sends only'. Then make sure that you have a 'master' send which receives dry signal. This is the method that would work best for arrangements.

For live performance, you might only have room to adjust one parameter at a time. In this situation I would look into 'magic send' or send trick or something. Basically you Send some audio to a Utility plug in which inverts the phasing of audio sent to it. When both are summed up, it cancels out the original audio source. Anything Else that your audio was also going through remains as your wet signal

search 'magic sends' - should cover everything you want to do.. works well live as well as for writing in arrangement.
