Hey guys,

So I play in a band and plan on using ableton to trigger some audio to add new elements to our sound.
I have a MPD26 pad and notice when i assign an audio track to a pad it also plays a note with the trigger.

For instance; i assigned a mp3 track to play before our set while trying to get use to the program, but when i trigger it on the pad it plays a D sharp, depending on what pad is triggered the note changes.

How can I disable the note being played when triggereing an audio file?

Most of those Akai devices can send midi out from Two midi ports at once. In your midi ins/outs in preferences, you should be able to disable port B and still get full functionality

In fact, if you ever decide to use a second music program, now port B will be available

Quick other question, say I come up with something in ableton, do i then upload to say an mp3 file and use the same techinque to play it?

Oh and also, how do I save presets? Like the mapping I do on my trigger?

Well for one thing, there might be a nice control surface script hidden somewhere in the tips & tricks section of the forum. It gives you the kind of control where you have a red box highlighting clip slots that you can move around to trigger different clips. Not sure if that is what you are going for.

Another thing is, when you save a set, clips from it get saved within it. If you find the set in your Ableton browser, you can dig in there and pull those clips out for later use.

When you save a set, your mappings are saved with it for when you re-open that entire set. If you have certain things that you Always want mapped, every time you open Ableton live, there is a setting in preferences to save a set as the default. Now whenever you start a fresh set, I opens exactly the way you set the default. So be careful not to have any annoying settings that will get in the way

when you copy a song into ableton it automatically play to what bpm ableton is set to, how do you make it leave the song at the bpm it normally is at?

And is there a way to cut down on the time it taks to play an audio file? For instance when I trigger a song it takes half asecond to start playing

When I make a track all the say the kicks are seperate to say the snares, is there a way to bring them together inrder to play with some beats?

The tempo can be changed using a control for the global tempo, or by renaming the scene launch buttons on the right to your favorite tempos (like 'GimmaDatClap 87bpm'). The. When you launch those, it changes tempo.

Be warned tha when you hit a scene launch button, it also launches all the clips on that row. A handy feature is the ability to remove stop buttons. If there are stop buttons on the row of a scene, your clips for those channels will be stopped.

Clips wait to trigger at intervals of the 'launch quantization'. There is a Global one at the top which by default applies to all clips. Usually it is set to 1 Bar. This means it will wait until the first beat of each bar to launch the clips. Also individual clips can have their own quantization. It is set within clip properties. If you set it to 'none' the clips launch as you trigger them. Above that setting is how the clips behave when triggered. I'd really suggest looking in the manual. This program has an amazing workflow and the manual is fun and inspiring haha. Also, there are some nice basic tutorial vids on the site somewhere
