Using Ableton to update firmware?

I've got a late 90s model Roland A90. I would like to update the software version of the keyboard but when I load the MIDI files up into Ableton, Ableton seems to think that they're empty files. Does Ableton not transmit sysex? Anyone know of another (free? or low-footprint) piece of software that would work in OSX Lion that can transmit standard MIDI files to an external device? I tried SysEx Librarian from Snoize.com but couldn't seem to load the midi files... Any help is greatly appreciated!
