Yesterday I copied (using the spectrum) the EQ shape of pink noise that ran through an cabinet sim and I did it just by using two EQ8 instances. And it sounded very similar. Yes of course if you change the mic position on your cab sim software you will have to redo the entire shape of an EQ curve, but it will sound just the same, it just takes longer.

It's more than just EQing. I don't doubt you got something to sound similar, but I am pretty sure there is more involved in these amp modellers which is not simple EQing. For instance, you are not going to be able to model saturation in a tube amp with EQ alone etc etc.

As a matter of interest, why would you want to use EQ's which you say takes longer anyway?!?

Actually you are right, why bother if it takes more time?
Well, because Im broke and I dont have enough money to buy an cabinet simulation software, so I just emulate an EQ responses manually. And I also like to know how things work, and Im also want to know how to replicate certain sounds using different techniques.

You are totally right about complexity of an guitar amp simulation and I do have some nice AMP simulation plugins (from Ignite Amps, and from LePou) so I just need a CABINET simulator so it sounds just as the "real stack". Sadly, there is no free OSX cabinet plugin that I know of.

PS. Could anyone recomend a free EQ that allows you to "draw" the shape, it would make my task much easier.
