Ever have a favourite track bastardized?

Post by condra » Thu Sep 29, 2011 3:39 pm

Big fan of Nosaj Thing
Aquarium is one of my favourite tracks:

Then Kid Cudi did a massive shit on it, taking the track wholesale spitting some bullshit on top.

It has actually ruined my enjoyment of the original.
I know Nosaj Thing gave Cudi permission but that's beside the point.

:x

Fucking Kid Cudi.
Jesus Christ.
That Kanye twat does the same shit too.
Gay fish twat.

yeah, sometimes it can be good but funny.

like the benny benassi song - cinema (its an okay mellow track)

then skrillex does a remix and makes it pretty good (except for a few parts imo)

and everyone is like OMG SKRILLEX'S NEW SONG CINEMA IS FUCKING AMAZING.

...then I facepalm, and look the other direction.

This ones too easy but in the same vein.
I remember seeing two live memorial events on tv where will.i.am of black eyed peas was singing with other classic artists doing cover songs.

1. Herbie Hancock was playing keyboards, I think it was a Stevie Wonder song. I think it was a memorial early on regarding Obamas presidency. William doesn't sing very well and then proceeds to go into that vocal arpeggiating so common among black soul singers. It was horrid. Just completely shit on the song.

2. Same thing, different cover, different classic performers playing, being humble yet being unacknowledged by the Announcer, MC, crowd, etc. May have been Redemption Song.

I think they were both pretty serious events, as far as where everyone should be humble, thankful, etc, and he non-chalantly rapes these classic important songs by trying to show off vocal chops that don't exist.

Haven't listened to the tracks yet and rappers do frequently shit on tracks, but is this an across the board hatred for you? Have you heard any raps over some favorite tracks that you do like?
