Ableton Forum

Hey all,
So I'm trying to figure out how I can control my Korg R3 hardware synth via my midi controller/piano roll. I still want to be able to mess wtih the parameters on the R3, so I know this is going to involve MIDI in/out. how should I go about this? and do I still need to connect audio cables to my synth, or can all of that information be carried from midi?

Right now, my problem is this: I have ableton routed out of my pc via usb interface into my monitors. When i play my synth, it 'records' data on my MIDI chanel. but when I play it back I can only hear it from my synths headphone jack. I'm not really sure what I need to do in order to be ableton to use midi to control my synth, and hear everything all at once. currently I have midi outs and ins set to the R3's interface
