How to pitch bend chords without it sounding like crap??!

Post by Mike145 » Thu Oct 06, 2011 6:33 am

Hey guys, ive been fucking around in ableton trying to make some glitchy french style house. I have a chord and i want to pitch it down to create an effect such as in this song...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eoLDEZnbaY
during the breakdown, the whole chord pitches down.
now when i draw an envelope on the pitch in ableton it sounds horrible. I think its because each of the 3 notes are pitching down at different speeds... doesnt sound anyting like what im trying to do.

Also any tips to get some sort of glitches as in this tune...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sbTmLvL7fQ

would be appreciated!

thanks guys!

I don't hear any pitchbend in the chords. There is some quiet extreme sidechain compression going on, do you maybe mean that?

I think what your calling a pitch bend is actually more of a tape stop type effect.

Check out the video in this thread for 1 method of creating one

For glitch type stuff I find audio easier to mangle. Couldn't play the video you linked on my phone so I don't know the reference.

might get a better effect if you play the start and end chords and use portamento on the instrument to glide between the two

Boss Level Music gets all the internet points for deducing the answer without even hearing the track!
nice kung-fu
yep, that's a "tape stop" effect on the linked track, a sample slowdown - not a pitch bend

Thanks Angstrom, but my Kung Fu is not that strong.
It was only the second link referencing the glitch track I couldn't play.
