Help me understanding that api stuff...

So, I'm a newcomer trying to understand the api stuff using the M4L.api.ListOfAbstractions as starting points. I wanted to compare the M4L.api.DeviceParameter and M4L.api.DeviceParameterRemote. So I connected them to the SelectParameter abstraction, then choose a parameter I want to set.
But when I try to change the value of that parameter with the inlets, it works with M4L.api.DeviceParameter but not with the remote version. What's going on here ?

So, I continue my investigations. I've got this patch I talked about earlier :

2 things about it :
1st is I can't change the value of the chosen parameter with the numbox patched to the left inlet of the live.remote~.
2nd is many parameters don't display their min and max properly. For example, the filt freq of the filter delay, but delay time does. Is that me or is that a bug ? I have a hard time trying to get what's going on with the api objects and that really confuses me.

too unmotivated to look at your patch right now but the device above helps me to stumble through when I need to do something specific.

Do you mean the LOM navigator ? or blog entries ? I made a search with 'lom' 'api' etc. but didn't find anything else. By the way, I dled the latest version of the LOM naigator because I had an old one from maxforlive.com and it was buggy.

thank you Shell for your input. I didn't really mean to solve problems but rather catch how those objects operate and of course start with simple things, and I thought abstractions (of course I double clicked the patchers) would be starting points for that. I had a buggy version of your LOM navigator Just visited your site and DLed the new version which I'm gonna try right now.
I've had a look at the LOM and API overview before starting and if I understand the concept, some things are still confusing for me. For example, I don't really get the difference between 'get' and 'observe'. Does 'observe' allow a continuous look at a parameter while 'get' would give the value at a given instant ? And so much naive questions...
Edit : ok, so I got my head around the LOM navigator but don't get what the 'call function' button and output message box do. I had a hard time understanding I had to go back and forth the first two menus to observe (or should I say 'get'

) a value. So maybe a little help box would... help.

Just found this article on your blog, shelluser :
http://blog.synthfan.info/2011/04/11/m4 ... model.aspx
You should be blessed, if that had any sense, for that stuff. By the way, I had read somenone's post mentioning good information on your site (edit : that was on the Cycling's forum) so I made a search on it with 'LOM' and 'live object model' (in the title, comments, content,...) and it returned no result. So, if you ever want to get the glory you deserve for it, you should allow the search function on your site to find it !
