Wired Midi network between 2 macs?

my buddy and i have been having a little trouble with the tempo sync when our macbooks are connected over the wireless network. Is there a way to run the midi network through a wired connection without an ethernet router?

I sync two Live computers by just plugging the Ethernet ports into a cheapy router... Like a $30 linksys. I've also tweaked some things in Audio Midi setup (in your utilities folder in applications) to make it happy.
I'd be happy to talk thru those settings if you like.
