Hi

I'm using Ableton live 8.2.6
Max OS X Lion
Focusrite Saffire Pro 14
Novation Remote 37 SL controller keyboard
and A Roland Super JV-1080 rack synth (as my external hardware)

I'm having trouble recording midi into either a single midi track or a midi track loaded up with an external instrument.

I have trawled the net and forums for a clear guide to this, but it's proving difficult...

I can get live to record in the midi signal (notes), but no audio plays back?
and I can get live to record the midi notes with audio but it sounds distorted and completely different to what i'm playing on the controller keyboard via the JV-1080 and the midi notes are short and not how I played them.... I have no trouble recording the midi as audio as shown below, but it's just getting the midi from the jv-1080 to synch with live via the remote sl and playback as played.

I have no trouble playing midi with vst or soft synth it's only with external hardware.

I have attached screenshots of audio and midi in's and outs and how i'm routing.. I would really apreciate your advice what am I doing wrong?

Also you'll notice the output in prefs on number 1 is set to none as the Automap server from the remote sl messes with live so I have to set that to non to disable the autmap

I'd really appreciate anyones advice.

Figured this out, but thought i'd leave it up for anyone in the future.. all I had to do was make sure my hardware synth was sending on the same channel as live and my remote sl controler... the jd-1080 originally was sending the right signal to ableton but it has to receive on the same signal...

once i figured out how to change this on the hardware synth everything was fine.
