Audio skipping in EVERY DAW since Live Lite 8 was installed

Hello,
I'm still relatively new to Ableton, as I've been using Garageband and Reason for some time. Ableton seems to be a very capable program, even the Lite version from Line 6. The problem is, no matter what DAW I'm using, the audio skips every few seconds or so since I've installed it. I've never run into this issue previously. I'm guessing maybe it's a bad download, since I've triple checked all parameters regarding buffer size, sample rates, and CPU usage. Conversely, none of my recorded music tracks display the same behavior in iTunes, and streaming video and audio both work just fine. I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling the program to isolate the issue, but I'm really at a loss. Any suggestions would be very welcome and appreciated.
BTW, I'm running a Powermac G5, Dual 2.0GHz with 4GB of RAM, so I know that I have plenty of horsepower to run this thing.
Namaste
