Controller won't "stay" on one track.

I think this is a brainfart, but I want to use my old Faderfox LX1 to trigger Stutter edit. Any USB controller I have works great; just MIDI route the track to my Master>StutterEdit in the I/O. The Fader fox is real Midi, so it goes into my MOTU Ultralite which is FW connected. For some reason, it won't map to JUST the Stutter edit track. I know it will because I've used it as a "box 'o triggers" in the past.
What am I missing?
